These images are a selection from a short 8.5 minute shoot at Moorabbin Airport (YMMB) in early July, 2012, and a subsequent shoot in mid-October, 2012.

Moorabbin remains one of Australia's largest and busiest GA airfields. Depicted a PA-28 Warrior, PA-28R Arrow III and Beechcarft 76 Duchess [Click for HD Background]

De Havilland DH-82A Tiger Moth II VH-IHU

The Tiger Moth trained thousands of WW2 aircrew making it one of the most succcessful trainers of all times. It is an underpowered and poorly harmonised design, but attractive visually and always a good photographic subject.

Bellanca 8KCAB Decathlon VH-CUM

This 8KCAB was my preferred aircraft during the 1990s and I logged much of my 8KCAB aerobatic time on it. Of the various 8KCABs I flew during that period, this aircraft was the best handling, by a significant margin. The aircraft remains an aerobatic training workhorse (Mamiya-Sekor C 300mm f/5.6N ULD).

Piper PA-44-180 Seminole VH-TYS

The Seminole is an aircraft I enjoyed flying, and did both my twin training and ME NVMC training on Seminoles. This example is a brand new aircraft operated by Moorabbin Flying Services.

Raytheon/Beechcraft Bonanza A36 VH-YGM

This pristine 2002 built A36 is privately owned.

Piper PA-28-181 Cherokee Archer VH-MFS

This 2005 built Archer is operated by J&J Aviation, based at Moorabbin.

Cessna 182S Skylane VH-PCO

Cessna 172R/S Skyhawk SP

My 'pet hate' in GA types is the Cessna 172. I have never understood why the 172 was so popular, given its mediocre handling, poor upper hemisphere visibility and general clumsiness. Most of these examples are operated by OAA, which absorbed my Alma Mater GFS.
