significant or unexpected disclosures since the last new update in
July. MAKS 2013 saw the first public display of the new S-350 Vityaz /
9M96 SAM system, all of the 55Zh6ME
Nebo M multiband CVLO radar system components, and the previously
undisclosed 55Zh6UME CVLO radar, and new Almaz/Antey/Radiofizika
"TPY-2-like" Ka-Band BMD radar mockup. Mostly Russian language
publications (use Chrome or Google Translate as required). Other items
of interest are a photoessay showing the Venezuelan SA-23 SAM system, including the
9S32ME Grill Screen engagement radar, and revised TELAR design with
enlarged illuminator antennas. The only notable Chinese disclosure
involved a NRIET poster showing some details of new X-band AESAs
intended for the J-10B, J-16 Flanker G, and J-20.

area defence SAM, the Su-35S
debut at the Paris airshow, Venezuela taking delivery of two batteries
of the S-300VM / Antey 2500 / SA-23
(by far the best performing SAM Russia builds), and in late June the Kommersant
Daily leak that Russia may bypass the UN sanctions regime against
Iran and supply the state-of-the-art S-300VM / Antey
2500 / SA-23 as a substitute for the much less capable and obsoleted
1993 technology S-300PMU1
/ SA-20A Gargoyle. The latter is a major strategic development
which appears to have been wholly ignored by Western mass media, trade

PAK-FA: APA has received a large number of email queries asking the
question: “when will an analysis of
the PAK-FA be published?” A Technical Report analysing the
PAK-FA is currently in development. The importance of this program is
such that APA will not be releasing this TR until the analysis is
properly completed, and a robust and thorough report can be produced.
Visitors interested in the strategic and operational implications of
the PAK-FA might consider reading the following 2009 NOTAMs: When America’s Stealth Monopoly Ends,
What's Next? and Air
Combat: Russia’s PAK-FA versus the F-22 and F-35;
and the 2009 Technical Report update covering the Tikhomirov NIIP PAK-FA AESA radar. All
indications at this time are that the conclusions of the two 2009
NOTAMs will firmly hold, although PAK-FA is more capable in many
respects than previously expected.
